Federal Obligations for R&D Contracts Increase 1.8% in FY 2022; Obligations for R&D Grants Increase 2.7%

In FY 2022, federal obligations for extramural performance of research and development totaled $104.3 billion—$51.9 billion from contracts and $52.4 billion from grants. This total represents an increase of 2.2% from FY 2021's $102.0 billion total.
